Your financial data stays on your device. We cannot see it. The only things that
leave your device are payment details handled by Apple, limited marketing and analytics data, and, only
if you choose to turn it on, anonymous aggregated savings figures.
Who we are
sort.cash is operated by Tyler Patterson in Queensland, Australia ("sort.cash", "we", "us"). This policy
explains what we collect, what we deliberately do not collect, and the choices available to you. It
applies to the sort.cash app and website.
1. Data that stays on your device
Everything you record about your money lives on your device. That includes your income, pay cycle,
objects, amounts, savings and the history of what you have entered. We do not receive it, store it, or
have any means of accessing it. This is a consequence of how the app is built, not merely a promise.
Where the app offers optional iCloud sync, an encrypted copy is stored in your own Apple iCloud account
so your devices stay in step and you have a backup. That copy sits under your Apple ID. We hold no key
and cannot read it.
2. Data that does leave your device
a. Payment and subscription data
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment method and card
details and carries PCI compliance for them. We never see or store your card details. We receive only
your subscription status, such as active, lapsed or cancelled.
b. Marketing and analytics
We use third party services to understand how sort.cash is found and used, and to run advertising:
- Google for analytics and advertising.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) for advertising and measurement.
These services may collect device and usage identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP
address, and events such as installs, screen views and sign ups. They operate under their own privacy
policies and we encourage you to read them.
c. Our email list
If you join our waitlist or subscribe to updates, we hold your name and email address so we can contact
you about the product. This is the only personal information we hold directly. You can unsubscribe at any
time using the link in any email we send.
d. Aggregate savings data, strictly opt in
We do not collect this today. If we introduce it, it will be strictly opt in and off by default, and you
will be asked to turn it on explicitly. It would consist of anonymous, obfuscated and aggregated figures
about savings outcomes, used for marketing claims such as an average saving across users. It would
contain no names, no account details, no transaction detail, and nothing that identifies you or your
device. You would be able to turn it off at any time, and it would never include your underlying
financial records.
3. What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not connect to your bank or any financial institution.
- We do not hold, move, or have access to your money.
- We do not upload your financial records to our servers.
4. Your rights
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy
Principles. You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you, and
you may complain if you believe we have mishandled it. If you are not satisfied with our response you can
contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have rights to access,
rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and you may withdraw consent at any time.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what is collected and to request deletion. We do not
sell personal information.
5. How long we keep things
We keep your name and email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. We keep subscription
status for as long as your subscription is active and for any period required by law or for our records.
Analytics data is retained according to each provider's own retention settings.
6. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited information we hold.
Data on your device is protected by your device's own security, such as your passcode and biometric lock.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
sort.cash is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal
information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we
will delete it.
8. Overseas disclosure
Some of our providers, including Apple, Google and Meta, process data outside Australia, including in
the United States. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled
consistently with this policy.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Where changes are material we will make reasonable efforts
to tell you, for example in the app or by email. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
10. Contact
